Hello to All,
Pelicans in the City “Learning for Life” would like to thank ACCCO for nominating our Centre as “Service of the Month”. It was a great honor to receive the award and the extra goodies that go with it.
The staff of our City Centre, as well as our other centres, have appreciated the dedicated training and exceptional support that our registered training officer Melissa Flanders has provided us with over the past years.
Pelicans Child Care centres first opened in 1997 with our Pelicans in the Park Centre in Edge Hill. This centre was a great success with the state of the art design and extra large rooms for all age groups. Pelicans now has three centres in Cairns, one in Innisfail and our latest addition in Atherton. The decision to expand was easy as we wanted to offer more families the high quality education and care that Pelicans staff prides themselves in offering each day.
Our overall mission is to “care not only for the child but the family as a whole”
All our centre have been designed around the successful inclusion of a large “central activities area” where children gather for our extra curriculum programs such as weekly Music Appreciation Lessons, Dance Lessons as well as the wonderfully successful Cheeky Monkey Club modules. Each centre also has its own talking Pelican which can greet children as they arrive for the day.
Our Pelicans in the City centre has a fully equipment children’s gym where the children engage in our Healthy Kids Club program twice a week. This program is designed to keep our children fit and active and teaches them about the correct choices to make regarding their daily food intake. Our wonderful gym teacher also travels to our other centres with the gym equipment, so that all Pelicans children have access to our Healthy Kids Club program.
Not only are the children of our centres well cared for but staff are also thought of with high importance. Apart from our very comfortable environments to work in, there are incentives for staff who are studying towards their qualification with an immediate 50% rebate of study costs and the remainder of the costs reimbursed after a qualifying period. Group Leaders are given generous weekly non-contact time towards their programming and child portfolios. Staff Member of the Month gift certificates are awarded to successful workers as well as annual bonus’ for those who provide extremely high standards. Staff quickly form supportive teams where respect and friendships develop. Smart comfortable uniforms are also provided.
The staff of all Pelicans Child Care Centres ask themselves every day the two very important questions which encompasses our philosophy.
