English Language Requirements

English Language Literacy Numeracy Requirements 

All students are required to take a Literacy and Numeracy test to establish their ability to succeed in the course they have applied for. For international students whose first language is not English, the minimum level of English language proficiency is International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: Overall 5.5 (with no score lower than 5.0) or equivalent.

ACCCO accepts IELTS scores (or other acceptable test scores) not greater than two years old. Information on these proficiency levels may be obtained from ACCCO or from the following organisations, listed below:

English language tests

We accept the following English tests for standard entry into our qualifications;

  • IELTS: minimum score of 5.5, with no subscore less than 5.0 or
  • TOEFL: a minimum score of 527 or
  • Internet-based (IBT) TOEFL: a score of 46 (no sub-score less than 35) or
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic): an overall score of 42 or
  • Cambridge English Advanced level: a minimum score of 162

English College Pathways

If you don't meet the any of the above listed requirements, you may choose to study an English course at one of our English College Pathway Partners.

ACCCO has agreements with a number of English College pathway partners offering English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Cambridge English preparation, General English or IELTS preparation courses as a pathway for applicants who wish to enrol but do not yet have the level of English required to enter a Certificate or Diploma course with ACCCO.
