Qualification Description

The combination of the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care course and CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is an extensive program that readily equips graduates with theoretical and practical skills to support a quality learning environment. The dual qualification also dramatically increases career and employment opportunities for graduates. Through the dual qualification, you will learn what it means to provide a program for babies, toddlers and young children and work in a position of responsibility.

There are 28 units of study in this qualification covering topics such as:

• Developing, implementing and evaluating learning programs for children
• Supporting child interaction, behaviour and care
• Assisting with child health and safety
• Supporting child development and learning
• Following legal and ethical frameworks
• Facilitating children’s holistic development and wellbeing
• Managing and maintaining legal and ethical compliance
• Leadership and basic management responsibilities

Course Entry Requirements

Australian Child Care Career Options uses a range of selection criteria in our selection of students for entry into courses, but in general the potential student must: 

• Have a strong commitment to studying in Australia.
• Must be 18 years of age or over
• Have the required English Language skills of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (no band lower than 5.0), Pearson Test of English Academic score 42, TOEFL, Cambridge English Advanced level, or a Certificate of Completion from an English College Pathway Partner
• Successful completion of year 12 or equivalent
• Student Visa Holder (subclass 500)
• Be able to meet the financial cost of the qualifications and living expenses  

Classroom Based Study

2 Days Classroom Based Per Week, Plus 1 Day Vocational Placement Per Week

All courses offered to international students are delivered through classroom based study. The classes for Certificate II, Certificate III and Diploma courses are held at our Fortitude Valley campus in Brisbane.  International Students attend classes two days per week at the college and spend one day per week at Vocational Placement. This is equates to a total of 20 contact hours per week. There are also various days allocated for excursions, special visitors, art and craft days and block Vocational Placement.

All classes are delivered by qualified, industry experienced Trainers Assessors. Our Trainer Assessors work closely with students to optimise their learning experience. We simulate activities and tasks that are required to be performed within the workplace to prepare students for work or placement in an early education centre or service.

105 weeks (including 10 holiday weeks)

Other Requirements

Students must undergo a criminal history and working with children check prior to undertaking Vocational Placement in an early education service, or undertaking activities in any unit which may involve contact with children or young people (under 18). It is a requirement of the qualifications that students obtain a Blue Card upon commencement of study and hold a current Blue Card for the duration of enrolment in the qualification.

Employment Opportunities

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care provides for employment in the following roles:

• Lead Educator in long day care, child care centres, occasional care
• Family Day Care Educator
• Assistant Educator in a Kindergarten or preschool program, working with a teacher
• Supervisor roles in ACECQA approved services.
• Other education based employers may accept this qualification, such as working as tutor, education support staff or as teacher aides.

English College Pathways

ACCCO prides itself on maintaining solid quality relationships with reputable educational partners. Students who do not meet our English Language entry requirements may choose to study an English course at one of our English College Partners.

Pathways to Further Study

Some universities offer credit from the Diploma to enrol into Early Childhood Teaching qualifications. Alternatively, the CHC60215 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management is a great qualification for those aspiring to secure a management position in early childhood services.
