Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care


Course Outline

The Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care qualifies students for employment in the Children’s Services industry. Students undertake work placements, gaining industry experience acquiring knowledge and skills required to work at this level. ACCCO Students will graduate qualified and job ready.

Course Entry Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or over
  • A minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (no band lower than 5.0), Pearson Test of English Academic score 42, TOEFL, Cambridge English Advanced level, or;
  • Successful completion of English language studies with an English College Pathway Partner or
  • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care with an Australian RTO
  • Must have achieved a level of Grade 12 or equivalent at high school.
  • Student Visa Holder (subclass 500)

Classroom Based Study

2 Days Classroom Based Per Week
Plus 1 Day Vocational Placement Per Week

All courses offered to international students are through classroom based study. The classes for Certificate II, Certificate III and Diploma courses are held in our Fortitude Valley Campus in Brisbane. All classes are delivered by qualified, industry experienced Trainers. Our Trainers work closely with students to optimise their learning experience. We simulate activities and tasks that are required to be performed within the workplace so that students gain confidence before working in an early education and care. centre or service. 

Class Contact Hours

International Students attend classes two days per week at the college and one day per week for Vocational Placement (VP). This is a total of 20 contact hours per week. There are also various days set for excursions, special visitors, art & craft days and block Vocational Placement.

Employment Areas

The Diploma qualification provides for employment in the following roles:

  • Lead Educator in centre based child care such as long day care, child care centres and occasional care
  • Assistant educator in a Kindergarten
  • Family day care educator or coordinator
  • Supervisor of ACECQA approved services
  • Other education based employers may accept this qualification, such as working as tutors or as teacher aides.
