Frequently asked questions:
How we provide the training and assessment?
Training will be provided at the education service. Our Trainer Assessor will come in and visit your trainee on a regular basis. The training can be conducted in a quiet, uninterrupted area. As we work with the trainee through the units of competency, we will be encouraging them to ask questions and research information from within the workplace. When we complete the training plan with you, we will determine if the skills are carried out in the organization, if the resources are available for the training, which will do the training and when the training will be completed by. We want the traineeship/apprenticeship to reflect skills required in this job, but also we want the trainee to develop good underpinning knowledge that will help them to be more effective, able to think through problems and use a common sense approach to their jobs.
Do I have to be paid a reduced wage while doing the Traineeship/Apprenticeship?
No. This can be negotiated between the trainee/apprentice and the employer. For the duration of the traineeship/apprenticeship, the student must be employed on a permanent full time or permanent part time basis.
How long does the traineeship/apprenticeship take?
Usually 12 months. However, part-time Trainees/Apprenticeship will take longer. Many Trainees/Apprentices who have good underpinning knowledge will be able to gain their skills in a shorter length of time.
Do I have to enter into a contract?
Yes, but just for the length of the traineeship or apprenticeship.
How much does it cost?
Under a User choice Apprenticeship or Traineeship, Employers can attract $4000 incentive payments from the government to support the employer with the cost of in-house training. Fee for Service contracts also attract incentive payments, however the employer is required to pay ACCCO for training from these incentive payments.
