Karen McKneight NSW Training Co-Ordinator from Australian Child Care Career Options (ACCCO) a private Registered Training Organisation (RTO) which specialises in Childrens Services training is not just an option for people seeking a career in child care – it is often their first choice. ACCCO now has Trainers and Assessors throughout Australia, and New South Wales is lucky enough to have very skilled and industry experienced Trainers and Assessors in the local area. This is due to an enviable reputation for providing quality practical early childhood training, which ACCCO has gained since 1995 when it was established by Narelle Cossettini, Principal of ACCCO.
On 21 November 2007 the NSW State Government signed off on the Diploma of Children’s Services to be undertaken as a 2-year traineeship, which is beneficial for new employees as well as existing staff to upgrade their qualifications from a Certificate III in Children’s Services (CHC30402) to a full Diploma of Childrens Services (CHC50302). The incentives for child care employers are up to $4000 which is a great support financially to keep and train their staff.
ACCCO is pleased to announce on Tuesday 11 December 2007, Samantha Hatch from CVGT Apprenticeships Centre Liverpool and Karen McKneight from ACCCO Macarthur region signed up and commence training with local Child Care provider Little Peters Child Care Centre- Casula, where one of their valued staff members, Ms Vanessa Slattery becoming the very first State Funded Trainee undertaking the Diploma of Childrens Services in NSW.
Karen McKneight from ACCCO who is an advocate for high quality care and education for all children is very excited with this opportunity, which she said, ` this enables new and existing Child Care staff to upgrade their qualifications and to broaden their knowledge and skills to ultimately allow for improvement of quality care and education for the young children that these staff members care for`.
“We offer the same courses as TAFE but one of our key points of difference is our small class sizes and fast track courses (due to small numbers),” says Ms McKneight “and our trainers and assessors are highly qualified with current industry experience.”
“We give our students every opportunity to maximise their job prospects and this includes their First Aid Certificate, and assisting them with their CVs.”
“There’s a shortage of skilled people in the community and our graduates are highly sought after,” said Ms Cossettini.
“Child Care Centres ring us for placement of assistants, group leaders and directors.”
“ACCCO is now strongly entrenched in NSW with many external students and offering fast track Child Care courses, workshops and in services to all Child Care Services. ACCCO is based in the Macarthur area as well as the Central Coast communities and neighbouring locations.
