While every qualification has core units which all students must competently complete, there are also a required number of elective units which need to be completed to make up the qualification. In order to decide which elective units should be included, ACCCO regularly consults the child care industry, relevant regulatory frameworks and State/Territory/National Regulations and Acts. It should be noted that where the status of the unit is ‘core/elective’, in some States/Territories the unit is required (therefore a core unit) while in others, it is not. Furthermore, it should be noted that on top of these qualification, some State and Territory Acts/Regulations have additional requirements in order to work with children, or in a particular role. This includes, but is not limited to:
Students should check they meet other requirements of working with children in their State/Territory to identify other requirements for their position.
